JULY 2008
WHGBC . . . A Church With Purpose
"A Summer With A Purpose"
What are your plans for this summer? Are you planning on spending extra time with your family and relatives? Are you planning a vacation to have fun in the sun? This summer I want us to think about preparing for a summer harvest and not look back at the end of the summer and wonder what could have been. The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. (Jer 8:20). The words of the wise king said, He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame. (Prov 10:5). God needs laborers in the summer just as much as at other times of the year.
Summer is now in full swing and with July being a month for vacations and family outings, we will most likely be a little lower than usual in attendance and possibly even giving. I urge you that during the summer month of July, you will keep Christ in your priorities. We have a few special activities of ministry during this month:
(1) Church Outreach Booth at the city park on July 4th. Our church family will be doing sun catchers and face painting with the children along with giving out evangelism information and water bottles. It's a great way to serve our community as well as lay a foundation of evangelism.
(2) Vacation Bible School for all ages (Sunday evening, July 21st - Thursday evening , July 25th beginning each evening at 7:00 p.m. (see the enclosed flyer).
(3) We end the V.B.S. week with our Annual Family Trip to Holiday World on Friday, July 25th. It's always a great trip with fun and fellowship for our church (young and old alike).
(4) Finally, we have an opportunity to be a part of one of our sister church's revival week. Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church on New Deal Potts Road will have revival from Sunday, July 27th through Saturday, August 2nd. Bro Larry will be preaching each evening. It is our hope that many or our church family will attend and support the revival.
It doesn't appear there will be a summer slump in our July.
Bro. Larry
