KNOWING & BELIEVING
(Weekly Devotion for June 9, 2010)
And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
(John 6:69)
A guest lecturer at a seminary spoke for two and one-half hours attempting to prove that the resurrection was false. The professor quoted from scholar after scholar and book after book. He concluded that since the resurrection was false then the historical foundation of the church was groundless. He then asked if there were any questions.
An old preacher with a head of wooly white hair stood in the back of the auditorium and began with, “Docta Professer, I got one question.” He reached in his sack lunch and pulled out an apple and began to eat it. CRUNCH, CRUNCH went the sound as he continued, “My question is a simple question.” CRUNCH. “Now, I ain’t never read them books that you read.” CRUNCH. “and I can’t recite the Scripture from the original Greek.” CRUNCH. “All I wanna know is: This apple I just ate - - - was it bitter or sweet?”
The professor paused for a minute and answered in scholarly fashion, “I cannot possibly answer that question, for I haven’t tasted your apple.”
The old preach dropped the core of the apple into his crumpled paper sack, looked at the professor and said calmly, “Neither have you tasted my Jesus.”
The 1,000 plus attendance could not contain themselves. The auditorium erupted with applause and cheer.
When you get to know Jesus personally you trust Him and His words.
